It's physically impossible to swallow your tongue.

How often do you have an attack? Is someone with you all day? What happens if you have an attack and your alone? I know nothing about it.

I don't have grand mals or 'attacks' anymore but when I did, if there hadn't been anyone near me I could have been badly hurt from the fall.

I have attacks about every 6 weeks, and sometimes I may convulse. I've had to move things around in my room a bit, moving my bedstand away from my bed and putting a pillow next to the bed so if I convulse in bed and fall out I'll hit the pillow, not the bedstand.

I have hurt myself a few times over the course of 12 years of seizures. I have a scar on my hand from rugburn, some on my face from falling and hitting it and scratching it physically myself, and have pulled muscles pretty severely. The pulled muscles are definitely the worst, leaving me with constant muscle cramps and pain.

What is the difference between an "attack" and a "Convulsion"?

Convulsions refer specifically to grand mal or tonic clonic seizures, where the person loses consiousness and their muscles actually "seize" and twitch. These may last anywhere from 30 seconds to as much as 10 minutes. The longer they last the more dangerous, since there is more chance for injury, and the seizure activity in the brain can be damaging as well in long episodes.

Attacks can refer to convulsive seizure or smaller, petit mal or absance seizures also. She's basically referring to the act of actually having a seizure, regardless or what kind.

Here's a link to a site giving descriptions on all the different types of seizures that occur.

I never had an aura or warning before a seizure though I saw myself have my first seizure. Very scary, indeed.

can you get a drivers license if you haven't had a gran mal in years? and is there anything as a "cured" epileptic or is it something you live with your whole life?

My brother drives, but I'm sure it is on his liscense that he has to take meds. The aura part is interesting. I've heard of migraines being preceeded by them. I wonder if there is a connection?
